UNLV 2017 Runnin’ Rebel Week

Runnin’ Rebel Week Oct 18-24

From the release, UNLV is planning events for Runnin’ Rebel Week with the Scarlet and Gray Showcase on Wednesday, October 18, 2017.

It is free and open to the public. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. It will be the first look at this year’s men’s and women’s basketball teams and will feature team introductions, a scrimmage by both squads, a dunk contest, and much more. Fans in attendance will receive an exclusive poster and the first 1,000 students will get a free t-shirt.

Take a look at the link for additional events.

And the new logo had some bad PR when it was unvailed in the Spring. Any thoughts on the change?

2017 Mascot Bracket

For those who like to pick by the mascot.

Last Play of Regulation…

I watched Super Bowl LI on February 5, 2017.  I have no problem with the teams playing. Having played football into college; I have a problem with the play call on the last play in regulation.250px-post-pisarcik_qb_kneel_formation-svg

Fine you have a tied game and seconds left until overtime begins.  The Patriots line up in a kneel down formation, OK fine.  It is a regular play, but just like unwritten rules in baseball, this has the unwritten understanding in football:  If the defensive line fires off into the offensive players on the other side, then the defense is making an egregious assault on the norms of the game.  fine here, unwitten rule, offense not fined, here, Until…

The Patriots line up and run the ball out of this formation for an inconsequential gain at the end of regulation.  Every time Belichick and the Patriots line up in Kneel Down formation, there will be no more line man standing up and shaking hands.  There will be defensive linemen firing off and nailing the offensive linemen for one last time.  Because of this stupid call.

2016 Mascot Bracket

If you wish to have a different perspective, I present the bracket in Mascot only format.    A couple Bears, Trojans and Hurricanes to go along with the multiple Wildcats and Bulldogs.  Below is a pdf of the bracket.Capture2016 NCAA basketball Mascot tournament bracket
