Things to do in Las Vegas – 2015 Fall Edition

For my sanity, here are a list of activities (some free, some not) that look good for adults and kids.  The list is far from comprehensive; if there are any family friendly events that you know of, then add a comment with details.

October 3 & 4, 2015  Art in the Park at Wilbur, Bicentennial and Escalante Parks in Boulder City.  53rd annual Art in the Park brings artist and their wares to the outdoor art festival.  Free to the public.

October 8-12, 2015 Millionaire Chess Tournament at Planet Hollywood.  Spectators appear to be free, there was on-line streaming last year.  Entry in the open tournament is available to everyone; fees are staggered by registration date – today is $1,500.  An unrated event has a separate prize pool and an entry fee of $100.

October 9-11, 2015 Age of Chivalry at Sunset Park.  Renaissance festival returns; gates open at 10 am all three days.  Single day pricing $15 adult/$10 children/ 5 and under free. Some discounting available for advanced purchases and multi-day buys. $1 tickets for Friday night, Promo code: FACEBOOK when purchasing tickets here.

October 15, 2015 UNLV Scarlet and Gray Scrimmage at the Thomas & Mack Center.  Details to come.

October 22, 2015 Running Rebel Madness at the Downtown Las Vegas Event Center, 7-9 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m.  Free to the public.  Tarkanian Court is to be set up at the outdoor venue.  UNLV Basketball player introductions, dunk contest, and autograph sessions are included in the event.  More information here.

October 15-17, 2015 Las Vegas Valley Book Festival at various locations.  Kids events on Saturday October 17 at Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St.  Schedule here.

October 17 & 18, 2015 Red Bull Air Race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  Single day tickets $19-$39, children under 12 free.

November 3 & 4, 2015 Red Bull Global Rally Cross.  Tickets go on sale September 23.

November 7, 2015 Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival at East Flamingo Library 9:30 am – 4:30 pm.  Free to the public.

November 10, 2015 Shuffling begins for the Final Table at the World Series of Poker Main Event at the Rio (convention area).  Admission is free, must be 21 or older.

Bishop Gorman Football.  $10 adult, $5 students/kids.  The USA Today fictitious 2014 National Champs are ranked #3 in this year’s preseason poll.  Some home games of note: 08/29 Chandler (#20), 09/18 Long Beach Poly, 09/25 Servite, and 10/23 Don Bosco.  Although they make the statement “Bishop Gorman High School does not offer academic or athletic scholarships,”  they are very quiet about student tuition deferment, need based assistance, grants, booster donations, and other non-scholarship tools that they may be using to recruit players for Football (7 of the last 8 State championships) and Basketball (5 of the last 6 State championships).

UNLV Football.  Tickets start at $20.  First home game 09/12 vs UCLA.

Aviation Nation.  The Nellis Air Force Base open house has not been scheduled for this year.  The Aviation Nation website is not available.  This is a sad discovery, maybe the Air Force knows something we don’t – last time this was cancelled was right after the Federal Government shutdown in 2013.  The Thunderbird 2015 schedule has no events in the Fall for Las Vegas.

I will update when I find other interesting things I would take my kids to (if I had the time and resources to go).  Again, share a comment if you know or have an event.
